Ganderbal: Haji Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf (92) a political worker and social activist of Ganderbal district passed away on Saturday at SKIMS Soura after a brief illness.
He has worked as Labour officer in Zojila , Tangdar, Gurz, Uri and retired in 1984.
He also contested elections in 1983 and was Deputy District President Ganderbal Of National Conference and was presently Block president of Gund Block for NC besides Chairman of Public welfare committee Tehsil Gund.
Haji Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf was father in law of Sheikh Nazir, a senior Journalist of Ganderbal and maternal Grandfather of Kashmir Reader Correspondent Ganderbal Sheikh Anees
Hundreds of people participated in the funeral of the deceased at Hanifa Eid Gah Gund and his body was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard at Gund.
Various religious, social, trade, media and political organisations visited the residence of the deceased and condoled the demise.
Mla Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmad and MLA Ganderbal Sheikh Ishfaq Jabar National Conference has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the demise of Haji Sheikh Mohammad Yousuf.
Ghulam Ahmed Saloora of AIP, Bashir Ahmed Mir of PDP and Ajaz Ahmed Sheikh of Congress have also condoled the demise and prayed for the peace to the departed soul.
