Sopore: Soldiers from 22 RR, based in Sopore, allegedly ransacked the famous Dar-ul-Aloom seminary in north Kashmir’s Sopore and harassed the people present in the campus. Officials of the religious seminary, which houses hundreds of students from several areas of northern Kashmir, told Kashmir Reader that soldiers barged into the Dar-ul-Aloom campus on Sunday night and vandalized the property.
“We told them that this is a place of religious study but the soldiers didn’t listen to us. Instead they were abusive and went about damaging the property. Few students were also harassed,” authorities of Dar-ul-Aloom Sopore alleged.
The incident took place at 11:30pm last night when soldiers from 22 Rashtriya Rifles forced their way inside the seminary located at Mehrajpora, Sopore.
The army personnel allegedly misbehaved with officials of Dar-ul-Aloom and unleashed a reign of terror. “They vandalized the campus even as we informed them that the seminary is on a winter break and there is no one here except few staff members and some students. This is grossly inappropriate and we hope authorities take note of this interference by army in centres of religious education,” they added.
Meanwhile SSP Sopore, Harmeet Singh told Kashmir Reader that they have received no report of any such incident in Sopore.
When contacted Srinagar based defence spokesperson Col. Rajesh Kalia also denied the report and termed it baseless and added that neither any property was damaged nor destroyed.
