‘Kani-Shawl weaving to revive heritage, generate employment’

BANDIPORA: Under Heritage Revival Programme, the first ever Kani-Shawl weaving centre has been revived by the Handloom Department, Bandipora in collaboration with Bandipora College of Information Technology (BCIT) at Paribal Hajin where weaving centre comprising 15 looms stands established.
Assistant Director (AD) Handloom Bandipora, Director BCIT Fayaz Ahmad besides media persons and trainees were present on the occasion.
300 boys and girls have been imparted the training under Skill Development Programme in the district, out of whom 102 trainees, financed by various banks with only six percent interest, have been provided with a subsidy of Rs 10.20 lakh by Handloom Department, read an official handout issued on Saturday.
The AD has hailed the efforts of BCIT management and said that “the tradition will not only revive the heritage but will also generate employment for the unemployed youth”. He appealed the unemployed youth to come forward and avail benefits from various schemes of the government to earn their livelihood, the handout added.
