PAMPORE: In a major crackdown on rash and reckless driving on Srinagar-Jammu Highway, Traffic and Transport Department in a joint action challaned 120 tippers on Saturday.
The joint patrol parties of these departments were deployed in Galander -Pampore, Lethpora- Awantipora stretch and were checking the documents of vehicles throughout the day.
The officials told Kashmir Reader that more than 120 tippers were challaned, one tipper was seized and license of another tipper driver was suspended.
The officials said that drive was launched in the back drop of an accident at Lethpora area on Tuesday in which a youth from Pampore died and another one was critically injured in the incident.
DSP Traffic Pulwama, Sheikh Mudasir told Kashmir Reader that they have started a special drive on checking the rash and wrong side driving on link routes.
“Most of the violators are tipper drivers. Violators will be dealt strictly, especially those who travel without helmets or resort to triple driving and rash driving, he said.
“We have set up special squads for surprise checking on different roads especially Srinagar-Jammu national highway,” he said, “I appeal parents to understand their duty towards their children and prevent them from resorting to unsafe driving. The main cause of increasing road accidents are use of mobile phones, over speeding, rash and negligent driving.
While talking to Kashmir Reader DTI Pulwama and Shopian Farooq Ahmad told Kashmir Reader said drive would continue and the violators would be booked under the relevant sections of law.
