SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Friday said the registering of chargesheet by NIA against Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders is a “deliberate ploy to link Kashmir’s indigenous struggle with terrorism”. He accused New Delhi of “coercing Hurriyat leadership and enforcing dialogue through the barrel of gun”.
Demanding unconditional release of the incarcerated leaders, the Hurriyat chairman said there is no constitutional and moral justification to arrest these people and detain them in Tihar Jail.
“NIA has no role in the disputed territory as we are not part of India,” Geelani said in a statement and blamed “local stooges” for launching crackdown against the resistance leadership.
“There is a propaganda blitzkrieg to defame the movement and resistance leadership,” Geelani said and accused New Delhi of “coercing Hurriyat leadership and enforcing dialogue through the barrel of gun”.
The Hurriyat chairman termed the chargesheet filed by NIA and the witnesses listed therein as “false and fake” and termed it “political vendetta”.
“The charges levelled are far from reality,” Geelani said.
“It is a well-thought-out ploy to hoodwink the opinion of the international community,” he said. “They (New Delhi) are living in an illusion that they will make us to surrender. The sacrifices of our nation have now reached to the point where we see that we will emerge as victorious despite all odds.”
Referring to recent “threatening” statement of Army chief Bipin Rawat, Geelani said Indian rulers are “creating a hype of so-called terror to justify the use of state power”.
