Jammu: Homshalibugh MLA Abdul Majeed Larmi on Thursday vociferously raised in the state assembly the issue of a new army camp being established on a playground in his constituency.
The legislative assembly was discussing grants for Panchayats but Larmi raised the issue under a “point of information”, which was granted by Speaker Kavinder Gupta.
“My people are being lathi-charged by police in Homshalibugh as they are protesting the establishment of an army camp,” Larmi told the assembly.
“Kya aap nay ye log maarnay kay liye rakhay hain (Have you kept the police for beating people?” he asked the Parliamentary Affairs minister, Abdul Rehman Veeri, pressing him to issue a statement.
“Why only Homshalibugh? There are many army camps,” Larmi said.
He asked the government to “stop the situation from getting out of control”. “Stop your forces,” he told Veeri.
In his response, Veeri only said: “I have passed on directions.”
