Bijbehara: Hundreds of people in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district on Thursday blocked the Srinagar-Jammu national highway against the pathetic power supply in the town.
The protesting people alleged that they were not getting even a few hours of uninterrupted power supply for over two months now.
“Despite being one of the first metered areas in Kashmir, the condition of power supply is pathetic. The PDD is not following any schedule in our town and supply electricity according to their own will,” the protesting people alleged.
People asked whether they were being punished for living in the home town of the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti or for any other reasons.
“The authorities should come clean on this. If they say they have orders to keep us in the dark, we won’t protest again. But they should provide us some answers,” the protestors said.
The people blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway for more than two hours before the authorities could pacify them and send them back to their homes.
Executive Engineer (Ex En) Bijbehara, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, claimed the protests were held against delay in repairs of a defunct transformer.
“A transformer had developed a snag and people were demanding its restoration. We have assured them that the transformer will be fixed and installed soon,” Shah said.
