Jammu: Independent legislator Sheikh Abdul Rasheed was on Wednesday asked by the Legislative assembly speaker and deputy speaker to join back the house “for the interest of his own people”. Rasheed boycott the House on Wednesday after he was allegedly thrashed and injured by marshals and an official in civvies.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta said that he would talk to Rasheed. “Nothing like that (assault on Rashid) had happened. I will personally talk to him,” Gupta told the house after several members, including M Y Tarigami, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and G M Saroori, raised the issue of alleged assault on the MLA by watch and ward staff.
Soon after the House met today, the members expressed displeasure over the treatment meted out to Rasheed yesterday but were pacified on the assurance of the speaker. Deputy speaker, Nazir Ahmad Khan (Gurezi), asked Rasheed to join the house proceedings for the interest of his people. “Yesterday, Engineer Rasheed sahab tried to waste the time of this house and I had to direct him out of the house but today he is absent,” Gurezi told the house.
“Now, I ask Er Rasheed to join the proceedings of the house for interest of this people otherwise it is not good for his constituency,” Gurezi added.
Rasheed was marshalled out of house yesterday at the direction of Gurezi after after a heated exchange with NC MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone. Rasheed was allegedly thrashed and injured by marshalls on his way out. He later announced boycott of the house proceedings.
