Jammu: The opposition National Conference (NC) on Wednesday staged walk-out from the legislative assembly over the “dissatisfying” statement by government over the arrest of Bilal Ahmad Kawa by Delhi police on January 10 from Delhi.
Agriculture minister, Ghulam Nabi Lone read the brief statement in the house that government “was ascertaining the case”.
However, it failed to impress the NC members of which walked out of the house in protest.
“We know more details of the case from what has been reported in media than your statement,” NC’s Khanyar MLA, Ali Mohammad Sagar, told the minister.
Kawa was arrested in alleged case dating back to 2000. He is 37 year old and has two children and would frequent Delhi for his business.
He was suddenly arrested by Delhi police and anti-terrorism squad of Gujarat police for alleged links to militancy.
The issue was raised in the house by independent legislator Abdul Rasheed and seconded by NC’s Sagar. Rasheed is observing boycott of thr house proceedings.
Kawa is a resident of Old Srinagar.
The government had earlier assured to give its version of the incident, but announced today that it was collecting details about the arrest.
