Bijbehara: A complete shutdown was observed Tuesday in Bijbehara and Srigufwara areas of Anantnag district to commemorate the first death anniversary of local militants killed last year in a gunfight with government forces.
Adil Reshi of Bijbehara, Abid Sheikh of Satkipora Bijbehara and Maqsood Shah of Beowoora Bijbehara were killed in a gunfight with government forces on this day last year, in Aawoora village of Pahalgam.
All commercial establishments, shops and offices remained shut in Bijbehara town, Srigufwara area, Satkipora, Beowoora and some other peripheral areas. Traffic too remained very thin on the roads.
There were, however, no reports of any stone throwing from anywhere in these areas.
Forces had been deployed in strength in these areas to prevent any clashes.
A Tehreek-e-Hurriyat delegation led by Anantnag district president, Ashiq Narchoor, visited the three families of the slain militants and paid tributes to the deceased.
He said that the nation will forever be indebted to these young souls who laid their lives for the “freedom movement”.
Prayer meets were held at all the three places while Narchoor urged people to boycott the upcoming Panchayat elections.
