Hold protests in Sopore
Sopore: The family and relatives of murdered Sopore goldsmith staged a protest again in Sopore demanding his body be located.
Three weeks after Tariq Ahmed Malik went missing, who police later said was abducted and killed for robbery, his body is still to be fished out. Police had arrested four people, who they alleged abducted the goldsmith for robbery, and threw his body into Jhelum after strangulating him.
Tariq, a resident of Kalaroos in Kupwara, was running a gold shop at the Chota Bazar of Sopore and was putting up at Baba Yousuf locality of the town.
Apart from the demand of fishing out the body, the protestors also sought stern punishment for the accused persons.
In the last three weeks, the family has been protesting at different places in Kupwara and Sopore. On Tuesday, the relatives assembled at Iqbal Market, Sopore and blocked the road outside the SSP office for many hours.
The police reached the spot and dispersed them.
Earlier, the family had also held protest outside the offices of DDC and SSP in Kupwara. The DDC Kupwara had assured them of “full support”, they said, adding that the authorities have not been able to retrieve the body so far.
Meanwhile, Police in Sopore told Kashmir Reader that efforts were on to trace out the body. The asked the family to be patient and cooperate with the police.
