Srinagar: Army personnel Wednesday morning beat several people and damaged properties in Pinjura village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, locals alleged adding the army men also fired in air to create fear.
They further alleged that army soldiers smashed several parked vehicles and broke window panes of residential houses and the local branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank.
Witnesses said that dozens of army soldiers early today reached the area and started beating and thrashing whosoever they found in their way “without any provocation”.
Soon the locals came out of their houses to protest against what they called highhandedness of army soldiers however by the time the soldiers had fled the area.
When contacted SSP Shopian S A Dinkar told Kashmir Reader that Army vehicles of 44RR come under stone pelting in the village.
“For dispersing the stone throwers army soldier fired some shots in air, however nobody was injured,” SSP said and added that the situation was normal.
