Pharmacists protest for salary hike, promotions

SRINAGAR: Employees of Pharmacist Department held a peaceful protest under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Government Pharmacist Association (AJKGPA) for pressing demands here in Old Secretariat on Monday.
The protestors were demanding immediate promotion of pharmacists and other paramedical staff, technical grade in favor of pharmacists and demand for enhancement of grade pay of pharmacist from twenty four hundred to forty two hundred.
The protest was organized by AJKGPA in which members from different district associations participated.
The participants warned that if their demands are not met the demonstration will continue for an indefinite period.
Meanwhile talking to Kashmir reader Syed Ahmad, a pharmacist said “we are here to protest against the health department and government for not fulfilling the long pending demands of pharmacists.”
In addition he said that despite raising their demand with higher authorities, government is unmoved.
Speaking at the gathering, District President Haji Ghulam Hassan said that ‘they are working even during curfew like situations to treat patients but in return the administration treats us as beggars’.
He further added that authorities did not fulfill their demands despite many assurances in the past.
Chairman AJKGPA, Showkat Indrabi threatened to go for indefinite strike in case their demands are not fulfilled soon.
