Attends valedictory event of North Zone Inter University TT Tournament
JAMMU: Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services & Sports, Imran Raza Ansari attended the valedictory event of North Zone Inter University Table Tennis Tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education University of Jammu here on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister stressed on necessity of developing sports culture among younger generation to promote more sports talent from the state, an official handout read.
The minister lauded the role of the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University for organising the event where more than 40 teams from various states of the northern region participated.
Ansari maintained that with more players from all over India participating in such sporting events would play a decisive role in encouraging the local talent.
Highlighting government’s initiatives, the minister said that the present dispensation has taken several revolutionary measures for providing necessary sports facilities and opportunities to nurture the sports talent in the State.
The minister said that every education institution must include sports in their curriculum and further asked the youth to take up sports to lead a healthy and disciplined life.
“Not only the government but collective efforts on the part of parents, teachers and other private sports organisations should be put in to boost sports in the state”, the minister affirmed.
The minister further stressed on conducting such type of events that would encourage youth to take up sports and lay down a platform for local players to display their talent at higher level.
Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof R D Sharma, Director Youth Service and Sports Sheikh Fayaz, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Joint Registrar Finance University of Jammu, Dr Darmendhra Malhotra, Deputy Director Central Youth Service and sports, Haji Mirza besides other officials and students of the University were also present on the occasion.
