Srinagar: Police siezed 500 kilograms of banned polythene in Anantnag district on Monday
“In its drive against use of polythene, police seized more than 500 kilograms of polythene in Anantnag and Handwara,” a police spokesman said.
He said the drive was launched in the jurisdiction of all the police stations of Anantnag district.
“During the drive more than 500 Kilograms of polythene was seized in Anantnag town, Bijbehara, Ashmuqam, Srigufwara, Pahalgam, Dooru, Mattan, Kokernag and other areas of the district,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, police in Handwara also seized a huge quantity of polythene during the drive, he added
Meanwhile Sopore Police also seized more than 150 kilograms of polythene in Sopore.
The drive was launched in the jurisdiction of all the Police Stations of the Police district.
During the drive more than 150 Kilograms of polythene was seized in Main Chowk Sopore,Chankhan, Potkha, Warpora, Panzalla, Watergam, Dangiwacha and other areas of the Police district.
A Police official said that the drive was aimed to make traders aware about ill effects of polythene.
“It was observed that maximum numbers of traders were found using tissue bags instead of polythene bags which is a healthy sign,” he said.
The traders union and other respectable citizens hailed the efforts of Sopore Police.
The Srinagar administration also said that 95 kilograms of polythene bags were seized from various parts of the district today as part of the anti-plastic bag use drive started.
