Tehreek-e-Hurriyat asks people to stay away from upcoming polls

SRINAGAR: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leaders and activists protested on Friday at various places against the “harassment and ill-treatment” meted out to prisoners lodged in Tihar and other jails, a party statement issued here said.
They asked people to boycott the upcoming local bodies elections, saying “those killing and subjecting innocents don’t deserve vote and support”. “They are hand in glove with killer forces,” the leaders said.
Meanwhile, TeH leaders Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Mohammad Rafiq Owasi, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Meraj u Din Rabbani, and Mudasir Ahmad Bhat addressed various protest demonstrations and addressed people in Hyderpora, Anantnag, Lal Chowk, Zainakot and Khimber, the statement said.
“We are duty bound to safeguard the cherished sacrifices and participation in elections tantamount to treason with the blood of martyrs,” they said.
They also criticised authorities for detaining Hurriyat spokesperson Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Bilal Sidiquee and Umar Adil Dar and demanded immediate release of the detained leaders.
