Handwara: A video clip of an orphan boy from Handwara who claimed that he had been barred by his school headmaster from sitting in the matriculation examination has gone viral with people asking for punishment to the headmaster.
Showkat Ahmad Chachi, son of Bullah Chachi of Shitra in Langate, Handwara says in the video that the headmaster of Government High School Heral first declined his examination form for 10th class because of pending fee (Rs 750).
“Within next two to three days I again visited the school with 750 rupees and the school head accepted my form, but after few days when they (school authorities) distributed admit cards they said that my form has not been submitted because of shortage in school records,” Showkat said in the video adding on his persistence he was asked to leave.
Showkat, however, got a shock this week when the state board declared the results, and someone informed him that his result card was also available.
Wearing a pheran and a black cap in the video, Showkat presented the marks sheet in which he has been shown absent against all the papers. The availability of mark sheet meant that his form had been submitted but he has still been misled by the school.
An orphan living with his mother in a remote village, Showkat said that her mother begged for him and helped him reach class 10th but because of the school headmaster he couldn’t appear in the examinations.
Breaking down narrating his tale, Showkat requested chief education officer Kupwara and other officials to take action against the school head.
As soon as the video went viral on Facebook, netizens started seeking punishment for the accused headmaster.
