SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday said the pro-India parties are well aware about the “freedom sentiments” of the people; however they deceive the common masses by exploiting these sentiments.
“The pro-India politicians stand exposed and their main aim is to get to power corridors. They are once again playing their cards and their rhetoric about Kashmir issue and its resolution is mere hoax and their age-old deceit,” Geelani said in a statement.
Paying rich tributes to militant and youth killed on Tuesday, Geelani said these “brave hearts are facing a big power” and give their lives to end the “age-old slavery of their nation” thereby “putting a huge responsibility on our shoulders to honour these sacrifices and take the movement to its logical end”.
He termed the killing of a civilian Khalid Ahmad Dar at Kulgam as “very unfortunate and blamed the state administration and government forces for “such brutal killings”.
Geelani said forces under a “well-thought-out plan” are carrying out “bloodshed”. He rejected the statement of police saying they are acting as “more loyal than the king”.
In his telephonic address to people present at funeral of slain youth, Geelani urged people to boycott the upcoming Panchayat elections. He said a few people who vote in the election “dramas” were not only committing an “act of treason” but their actions also act as “oxygen for India’s illegal control of Kashmir”.
Hurriyat chairman said participating in elections tantamount to “betrayal with the sacred blood of martyrs” and “prolongs our struggle for freedom”.
“It is sheer deception and India portrays these elections as consent of (Kashmiri) people and mislead (the world) that Kashmiris have acknowledged State’s accession with India,” Geelani said. “People in state are pursuing (the struggle) for right to self-determination. Our religion, faith, culture, mosques, modesty, future and even social life is unsafe.”
Geelani also blamed police for torturing youth and rejected its claims. He said that youth arrested in Sopore are innocent civilians and not related to any militant activities.
Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Huriyat leader Bashir Ahmad Qureshi participated in the funeral prayers of slain youth in Kulgam and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Geelani also expressed his deep grief over the demise of wife of Ghulam Hassan Shah Bukhari and prayed for the departed soul and patience to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
