Shopian: As many as 268 cases of marriage assistance are pending in labour department of Shopian since 2016 as the aspirants have been denied assistance as promised to them by the state government.
A delegation of laborers who were registered with the labour department Shopian told Kashmir Reader that the department has published the list of cases of marriage assistance of their children in February 2017 but they have been deprived of the assistance money. A group of labourers said that they have registered for the ‘marriage assistance scheme’ in 2016 but despite two years has passed and no funds have been released to them.
According to the official records 268, the cases of 391 persons were pending in the department hailing from different areas of the district. “The assistance was meant for the persons who were laborers and falling to the poor economic backgrounds but the officials were forcing us to make fruitless rounds of their offices,” Gulzar Ahmad, one of the labourer said. Bashir Ahmad Lone, another labourer told Kashmir Reader asked as to what was the fun of announcing this scheme when they have no funds for labourers. “How can we skip marriage of children for two years, they (government) has deceived us,” he said. They said that if the cases were not released soon, they will hit the streets. According to the officials of labour commission department the total assistance money of 391 persons counts Rs 9,775.
Assistant labour commissioner Shopian, Pir Zameer Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that they have expectations that the assistance funds of the persons would be released after the sanctions from the government.
“Since March 2017, the scheme has been suspended by the government but we will release the cases of those we have published in the different newspapers,” he said while adding that they have budget for the cases but they were waiting for the sanction of funds from the government. “I have written to different higher authorities and hopefully the funds would be released this month,” he added.
