LMD conducts market checking in Kathua, books erring traders in Sgr

KATHUA: In view of upcoming festival season, the Legal Metrology Department conducted an extensive market checking in Chadwal and Dayalachak area under the supervision of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Jaideep Singh Sambyal. The team booked five traders for violation of Legal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules, an official handout read.
The inspection team also booked a wholesale dealer dealing with sale of tiles under the brand name JAGUAR CERAMIC. The tile packages carry use of rubber stamps for declaring MRP which was not legible and month and year of manufacture was mentioned on unauthorised sticker both of which are violations of Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011. Moreover, the tiles were found to be undersise.
The Legal Metrology Officer Dayalachak booked the case against the trader and seized the packages made and sold in sheer violation of rules. All the defaulters were directed to produce their cases with relevant documents before Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua for further legal action, the handout added.
Meanwhile, Legal Metrology Department (LMD) on Wednesday penalised an erring trader for Rs 20,00 for indulging in over-charging on certain bakery items.
