Jammu: Independent MLA Er Rasheed on Wednesday sought attention of the state assembly to the warning of strike that the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) in protest against the removal of Prof AG Ahangar as Director of SKIMS Soura.
Prof Ahangar has been attached with the general administration department (GAD) while three senior doctors of SKIMS have been suspended after a sting operation by a TV channel showed them doing private practice. Rasheed told the state assembly that Prof Ahanger had reportedly informed the government from time to time about the private practice by SKIMS doctors.
“Qayaamat aanay waali hai if doctors go on strike at SKIMS,” Rasheed said. He also referred to the ongoing strike by employees of the National Health Mission (NHM).
“People want to know the truth… if he (Dr Ahangar) is guilty, send him to jail, or else reinstate him,” Rasheed said, addressing the CM. “It is a serious issue,” he said.
Earlier, Yawar Mir and several BJP MLAs took their government to task over the use of force against NHM employees on Tuesday. “These NHM employees saved the lives of our security forces and people in 2016,” Mir said. “Now they have been ruthlessly beaten by the same people, which is condemnable,” he said.
At this, Rasheed said that when the government’s own MLAs raise the issue, “It shows that disproportionate force was used against them (NHM employees)”.
The BJP MLAs told the House that they were not satisfied by the response of their minister, Bali Bhagat, who said that the health sector was affected due to the strike by NHM employees. “The health minister should give assurance to this house that the issue of NHM employees will be taken up,” they demanded.
