Srinagar: Continuing their protest for construction of Sadhna tunnel, residents of Karnah Wednesday gave an ultimatum of January 25th to government for fulfilling their demand. They threatened of starting mass hunger strike in Delhi, Srinagar and Jammu.
Protesting here in Press enclave on third consecutive day, they accused the government of ignoring their demand for last 35 years.
“District commissioner and SSP of Kupwara have visited the Karnah. They have promised to come out with something concrete regarding construction of tunnel by Jan 25th. The ball is in Governments court; let us see what they are coming up with till the given date.”
The protestors were holding placards of recently killed 11 persons in an avalanche in Karnah.
One of the protestors, Proffessor Jahangeer Danish, said that every year more than twenty people lose their lives at Sadna pass.
“We demand construction of the tunnel for saving the precious lives of people of area. We have more than eighty thousand population in the Karnah,” he said.
“After heavy snow fall every year, Karnah gets disconnected from the Kashmir valley for more than six months every year. The life in these six months is full of sufferings. There is shortage of goods, basic essentials and medicines,” he added.
