BARAMULLA: The residents from four villages – Watergam, Achabal, Thaggund and Baharmpora in district Baramulla on Wednesday staged a protest and blocked Baramulla-Kupwara highway for hours to mark their anguish against PDD and PHE departments.
Protesters said that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water and power supply.
Protesting people raised slogans against both the departments, and said that despite repeated protests and reminders, the concern departments failed to fullfill their demands.
“We held many protests in the past, and we personally met with the concern department heads, but there was no outcome. We are facing acute shortage of drinking water and power supply,” said Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, a local.
Another protestor from Achabal, Sameena, said, “There is no electricity in our village to charge our mobile phones from the past several months. Our children cannot use internet services and they cannot read properly due to the shortage of electricity in our village.”
Later a team of Watergam police reached the spot and assured the protesters that they will inform the concern department heads to solve their problems. After assurance from the police, protesters dispersed peacefully.
