Karnah residents continue protest in Srinagar, demand tunnel

SRINAGAR: The Residents of Karnah in frontier district of Kupwara on Tuesday continued to protest here demanding construction of Sadhna tunnel.
The protestors from various sections of society including students, teachers, doctors and businessmen raised slogans against the state and central government for ignoring their demand from last 30 years.
The protestors said that their safety and economy is linked with the construction of Sadhna Tunnel.
The protestors were holding placards in their hands of recently killed persons who came under an avalanche.
Khawaja Manzoor Ahmad, a retired head master from Karnah, said, “We have been kept under four walls. The government is not bothered about our needs.”
Protestors said that during elections time, every political party makes fake promises to them for construction of tunnel.
Sheikh Ghulam Nabi, retired session judge from Karnah, said “Recently, the incident happened at Sadhna Top, in which incident 11 people lost their lives. From past 35 years more three thousand people has already lost their lives at Sadhna Top. In winters we are disconnected from the Kashmir valley due to the heavy snowfall at Sadhna top. The rates of the goods also increase during the winter.”
He added that they have already requested the state and central government for the construction of Sadhna tunnel, but they did not got any proper response from the government.
“If the state and central government will take any step to construction a tunnel, it will bring new life to the residents of Karna,” he said.
