Srinagar: Two militants have been killed in a gunfight with government forces in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Tuesday, sources said.
A search operation led to a gunbattle after the militants fired towards the forces’ party in Larnoo Kokernag area of the district, they said.
“Two terrorists killed in Larnu operation,” Army said adding the operation was underway.
Sources said that one of the slain militants has been identified as Mohammad Furhan Wani S/O Ghulam Mohammad Wani. Wani according to sources was active since June 2017.
Earlier forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the area following information about the presence of militants, official sources said.
“The exchange of fire between the two sides is going on but there are no casualties reported so far,” they added.
