Abducted for robbery, body thrown into Jhelum
SOPORE: A goldsmith in Sopore who has been missing since December 26 has been murdered after abduction, police said on Monday. The police have arrested four persons for their involvement in the crime.
Police said Tariq Ahmad Malik, 32, was robbed off and strangulated after abduction and his body was thrown into Jhelum.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Sajad Lara son of Mohammed Afzal Lara, Mohammad Adil Lara son of Mohammed Afzal Lara residents, Ghulam Mohammed Lara son of Ghulam Qadir Lara and Nayeem Ahmad Lara son of Ghulam Mohammed Lara, all residents of Ashpeer Sopore.
A missing report about Tariq, a resident of Kalaroos in Kupwara, who was presently putting up at Baba Yousuf Sopore, had been lodged in Sopore Police Station on December 26. Police constituted a SIT to investigate his whereabouts, which revealed that the motive of the abduction was robbery and “extortion”.
“The motive of these people was to extort gold and money from the goldsmith Tariq Ahmad Malik who was having a jewelry shop (Karatline Jewelery Shop) situated at Chota Bazar Sopore. These persons with the sole motive of extortion kidnapped Tariq Ahmad on 26 December 2017 in the evening hours and killed him on spot by strangulation and then disposed off his body by throwing it in River Jhelum,” a police statement said.
It added that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has been seized, besides gold worth lacs, and some cash. A case FIR number 09/2018 under section 364/RPC is already registered.
Meanwhile, police have also begun the process of tracing out the body of the victim.
