Srinagar: The government on Saturday suspended three senior faculty members of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura for violating practicing norms, while Director SKIMS Dr G A Ahangar was attached with the General Administration Department (GAD).
The order followed an exposé aired by a private TV channel wherein the three doctors were shown doing private practice despite drawing Non-Practicing Allowance.
According to a government press release, the three doctors have been immediately attached with the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir. The government has also ordered the attachment of Dr Ahangar with the general adminstraton department till further orders.
The government order identified the three suspended doctors as Prof. (Dr) Altaf Kirmani, Dean and Head, Department of General Surgery; Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Head, Department of Neurology and Dr Wajid Ali, Head, Department of Neonatology, SKIMS, Soura.
The government order stated that the three doctors were suspended for having been placed under suspension for violating the norms of not practicing while serving at SKIMS.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s employees association hailed government’s prompt action against the medicos and the director for flaying norms and indulging in private practices.
In a statement issued to KNS, SKIMS employees association held an emergency meeting under the chairmanship of its president G.M. Pandith in which it hailed the government for taking action against those medicos who were found involved in doing private practise despite receiving NPA from the government.
The association in a statement has stated that the government has done a commendable job and has saved Kashmir’s premier health institute from turning into “hub of corruption and mismanagement”.
