Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs, Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested many drug peddlers, the statements issued by the state force said on Sunday.
In Kulgam and Bandipora districts, police said that its forces arrested at least four drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, a police party of Police Post Jawahar Tunnel laid a naka at Jawahar Tunnel. During naka checking a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK03D-0150 was intercepted.
On checking 11 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from the possession of Amandeep Singh, resident of Ramewala Punjab and Sitfan Singh, resident of Fathipora Jhalander Punjab, the police said.
Meanwhile, the statement said that police arrested two drug peddlers identified as Abdul Hamid Khan, resident of Arin Bandipora and Khurshid Ahmad Lone, resident of Mirpora Bandipora during a naka checking near Shokbaba Fisheries Farm in the jurisdiction of Police Post Sumlar.
590 grams of cannabis was recovered from their possession, the statement said.
Another police statement said that a police party of police station Sumbal arrested two drug peddlers who were identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, resident of Chek Ganastan and Irshad Ahmad Reshi, son of Mohammad Maqbool Reshi, resident of Arampora Sumbal.
“Contraband substances including 150 grams of Charas, 29 kilograms of Bhang Patri and 55 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from their possession. These drugs were meant to be distributed among the local youth of the area,” the statement said.
Accordingly a case FIR number 05/2017 under section 8/20 NDPS Act and 8/21 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation was taken up.
