Srinagar: Vice Chairman Waqaf Board Nizam-ud-Din Bhal took an extensive two day review of working of different Departments of the Wakf Board here.
The members of the board include Advocate Azhar-ul-Amin, Er Khalid Muzaffar, Dr Ghulam Hassan Shah and Moulana Showket Hussain Keng.
The meeting decided that Education sector will be taken up as main medium of empowerment and would be provided additional policy attention and budget allocation.
It was also decided that steps would be taken to provide support for innovation and exploration in Wakf Schools and Plantation drive shall be launched and Projects related to Heritage. Culture and Environment would be taken up in each Wakf School.
The chairperson stressed that Wakf education Institutions should reflect a distinct identity of their own—in structure, substance and spirit and said a modest beginning could be made with a brand building that may include dress-code for Teachers, common Student Uniform for all Wakf Schools and School insignia compatible with Wakf mission and mandate.
The meeting also decided that a sustained campaign for conservation of Baba Reshi Forest (800 Kanals) will be undertaken to address issues of denudation that has happened over the years.
A special drive for development of Wakaf orchards will be launched with focus on high density plantation and creation of sustainable irrigation facility.
On the instruction of Chief Minister, the meeting decided that prime assets of Wakf Board would be covered under an elaborate Shrine Safety Plan in a phased manner with the support of other departments like PDD, Fire & Emergent) Services, PHE, R & B and Disaster Management Authority’.
Revamp of the Organizational Structure of the Wakf Board will be examined, besides a plan will be drawn for skill up gradation and career growth of the Wakf staff, spokesperson said.
The meeting also decided that Geo spatial mapping of all Holy Shrines, Mosques, Wakf institutions, buildings. Shoplines, Orchards and other landed property will be undertaken with support from Central Wakf Council.
An appropriate mechanism will be worked out to deal with illegal interference with Wakf assets by way of encroachments, sub-letting and undue retention of the rentals due, spokesperson said.
The meeting also decided that lingering disputes claims in respect of shops will be placed before the Asset Committee (constituted by the BoD) and would be resolved within the parameters of law in a time-bound manner.
