KUPWARA: Residents of Kralpora area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district observed a shutdown against shortage of doctors at sub-district hospital (SDH) Kralpora.
Most of the shops, including medical shops remained shut in the area.
President Traders Federation Kralpora Mohammad Amin told Kashmir Reader that despite having good infrastructure including an operation theatre the shortage of doctors and other staff at SDH Kralpora forced poor patients are forced to visit other hospitals in Kupwara and Srinagar.
He alleged that only two doctors were available in the hospital against 17 posts.
“Dozens of pregnant women are visiting the hospital everyday but there is no gynaecalogist available in the hospital and patients are forced to go other hospitals” Amin said.
“Over 200 patients are visiting hospital every day, but due to the shortage of medical staff they (patients) are returning and visiting other hospitals. We want to ask the government and Health department why they spent huge amount for hospital infrastructure and why they installed costly machinery in the hospital,” a trader Sajad Ahmad said.
