Opposition stages walk out in legislative assembly

Srinagar: The opposition on Wednesday walked out of the legislative assembly after the speaker rejected its demand to suspend the question hour and hold a discussion on the civilian killings in Kashmir.
Earlier, the opposition members created ruckus in Jammu and Kashmir assembly as they moved an adjournment motion demanding debate on the civilian killings and power crisis in the Valley.
The protesting members came into the Well of the house and raised slogans against the government. The protesting members were demanding suspension of the question hour.
Though Speaker assured the opposition that one hour debate will be held over civilian killings after question hour, opposition continued to protest in Well of the house demanding suspension of question hour to discuss issue of “public importance”.
As their demand was rejected by the speaker, the members of National Conference, Congress including Yousuf Tarigami of CPI (M) and independent lawmaker, Er Rashid staged a protest walk out from the house. The parliamentary affairs minister, Abdul Rehman Veri accused the opposition of wasting the time of the house.
The state legislature’s budget session started in the winter capital on Tuesday.
