Baramulla: The residents of a Baramulla locality crowd-funded to repair a drain after concerned authorities failed to repair it for the past several years.
Local people of Mohalla Jadeed and shopkeepers whose shops are along the dirty drain said that they contacted the municipal council and border roads organisation several times during the past three years to repair the patch of drain. The drain emanates foul smell and has the potential to nourish diseases. The authorities, however, did not pay heed to the public grievance and left the drain unattended.
“We collected money from our own and started the repairs. We purchase wood, cement, bajri and sand and now we are going to put a concrete reinforcement on the drain,” a local resident said.
General Secretary traders federation Baramulla Er Tariq Ahmad Magloo said that Project Beacon authorities had constructed the drain few years ago but there was no outlet for the drain and it got damaged only after few months.
