Mirwaiz calls for eradicating social evils from society
SRINAGAR: Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday paid tributes to Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), saying the renowned saint had dedicated his life for Islam.
Mirwaiz, who is also the chief of Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema, said Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) “attracted people towards the peaceful religion by spreading the true message of Islam and by playing the role of a social reformer”.
He urged the people particularly youth, parents and family heads to “come forward and shoulder responsibilities in shaping our society in accordance with Islamic teachings and values”.
“Help cleanse the Kashmiri society of social evils and un-Islamic practices,” Mirwaiz appealed.
Mirwaiz said the revered saint laid stress on humanity, kindness, brotherhood and social service for which the generations of Muslims were indebted to him.
“On one hand, Sheikh with his missionary zeal and sermons, attracted tens of thousands of people toward Islam on the other side, with his social reforms, he helped in creating a moral and just society as a result of which, centuries after his death, he was still being remembered world over and his teachings attracting all the more attention.”
Hurriyat (M) chairman said the best tribute to Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) and celebrating his Urs would only be meaningful when Muslims follow his religious mission.
“Kashmiri Muslims, like the great spiritual saint, needed to believe in the oneness of the Almighty Allah and rededicate themselves for the betterment of Islam and Ummah and take stock of their lives,” he said.
