LMD imposes `52600 fine on erring traders in Jmu

SAMBA: A team of officers from Legal Metrology Department (LMD) led by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Ajay Kumar Verma on Saturday inspected various business establishments at Bari Brahmana, Kartholi, Patli Morh Ramgarh, Vijaypur Swankha Morh, IGC Samba and its adjoining areas.
During the inspection drive, twenty one traders were booked for violations of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 (Amended), Legal Metrology Packages Commodities Rules 2011 and other prevailing Legal Metrology Laws and Rules and a fine of Rs. 52,600 was imposed on the erring traders, an official handout read.
More than 160 business establishments including provisional stores, Karyana shops, sweet shops, flour mills, general stores, dhabas, jewellery shops, vegetable/fruit dealers, meat shops, restaurants and industrial units were inspected during the inspection drive.
The Department booked a dhaba for overcharging on mineral water bottle by Re 1 against the printed MRP of Rs 19. They also booked one flour mill, one rice mill and an industrial unit at Bari Brahmna, Ramgarh and Samba for less packing and violating the labelling norms on the said packages, the handout read.
