Mufti Mohammad Syed Memorial Gold Cup
Srinagar: Fortview Srinagar and FC Dachigam win their quarter final matches of Mufti Mohammad Syed Memorial Gold Cup League Football Tournament-2017 on Friday played at TRC ground.
In the first quarterfinal of the day, Fortview Srinagar defeated Ferrari Lions FC Ganderbal by a margin of five goals to four via tie breaker. In the closely contested match, no team was able to score in the allotted time and the outcome had to be decided in a tie breaker. The tie-breaker also proved a nail-bitter as both the teams were able to score on four out of four kicks. However, Ganderbal team failed to covert one kick into a goal which proved to be the difference between the winner and the loser.
Earlier, during the allotted time, the forward lines of both the teams failed to breach the defence lines of each other. The goal keepers of both the teams also made some exceptional saves. The last 10 minutes of the play were of high speed and high quality as players of Fortview and Ferrari Lions were desperate to score. However, ultimately the match had to be decided in a tie-breaker.
The second qurater final between Iqra FC Dachigam Bandipora and Ali Sports Hajin also proved to be a cliffhanger as both the teams were not able to score in the allotted time despite getting several scoring chances. The match, like the first one, was also decided in a tie-breaker in which Iqra FC Dachigam prevailed.
Earlier, as the match began, the players from both the teams amid cheers from huge crowd started to attack each other’s goalpost. The ‘chillai kalan’ winds blowing across the ground, didn’t stop players from playing attacking football and it delighted the spectators.
The event is being held across the 22 districts of the state and is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) under the auspices of State Sports Council and on the directions of All India Football Federation (AIFF).
