Srinagar: A family from Srinagar has accused the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) of transferring a plot of land allotted to them in Boat Colony Bemina to another person.
The family held a protest in Press Enclave on Friday demanding the return of their plot.
Shazada Bano daughter of Muhammad Maqbool Nath said they were living in Kut Koul, Guru Bazaar area of Srinagar in 1993 when the state government rehabilitated families from the area at Boat Colony Bemina.
She said her father was a psychiatric patient and was unaware of plot allotted to family, which they have come to know of recently.
“The state government has allotted four marlas of land to my family in 1993 at Boat Colony Bemina.”
She said that after 2014 floods they came to know from Flood Control department Srinagar that their family has already been allotted a plot at Boat Colony Bemina.
“In November 2017 we applied for RTI application and came to know the list of families which were allotted plots in boat colony,” Shahzada said. “As per RTI data our family was allotted the plot number 214 (LS). This plot was allotted to Mohammad Ismail Nath, who was head of the family, and has been transferred to Mushtaq Ahmad Dar by SDA.”
The family currently lives in Noorbagh with Shahzada’s husband.
“From the last 24 years we are moving from department to department,” she said adding that they also have a case pending in the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir regarding the land plot.
The family questioned how the plot was transferred to someone else, and appealed chief minister and concerned authorities to look into it.
“How it is possible the name of the land owner has been changed,” she said.
