Srinagar: Srinagar based cable TV operators Thursday alleged that the Jammu based cable network distributor is using the influence of his brother, a cabinet minister, to shift the control of cable network to Jammu.
Protesting in Pratap Park here, the cable operators said ‘the cable distributor Subash Chowdary is the brother of cabinet minister Sham Lal Chowdary and alleged that he was using his influence to snatch their “right of having Kashmir’s own cable network control system.’
“We spoke to everyone regarding our right of having own cable network system but since Subash Chowdary is the brother of Sham Lal Chowdary, officials are giving deaf ears to our pleas,” Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, a cable operator said.
Khan said that Valley based cable operators stand with a court agreement signed two years ago that they can start own cable network in Kashmir.
“There is a proper agreement that we have signed two years ago but despite that we fail to understand why Subash is violating the valid agreement,” he said.
The protestors said that shifting the cable control to Jammu would lead to crises among Valley based cable operators as they can increase charges at their own will.
“Thousands of people associated with cable network system would get affected if cable control system is shifted to Jammu. They can stop our services and increase rates at their own will,” another cable operator Mukthair Ahmad Dar said. “They have also closed our pay channels in Kashmir but we got two stay orders from Jammu and Srinagar.”
He threatened that if the control is shifted to Jammu then valley based cable operators “would commit mass suicide”. “If government decides to shift control to Jammu we will commit mass suicide. We have a right to have own control system in Kashmir valley,” he said.
Last month cable operators had alleged that they were receiving threading phone calls after they decided to put on a fight against Jammu based distributor.
