Reviews performance of the sector
JAMMU: To review the performance of fisheries sector and steps taken for promotion of fish culture in the state, Vice Chairman, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissans (VC SABDK), Daljit Singh Chib convened a meeting here on Wednesday.
According to an official handout, Director Fisheries R N Pandita highlighted the implementation of various schemes and achievements registered by the department. “The department is providing two special vehicles for transportation of fish on low fare for the benefit of farmers,” he said.
The farmers present in the meeting apprised VC SABDK about various issues and also put forth their demands.
Vice-Chairman directed the concerned officers to repair the fish ponds of farmers and to ensure supply of quality seed to the farmers.
He also instructed the concerned authorities to “install solar lights near fish ponds for smooth monitoring and care”. He exhorted upon them to “work with missionary zeal to achieve the production targets”.
D S Chib asked the officers to “organise awareness camps to involve unemployed youth in this profession” so that they can earn good livelihood.
He underlined the need to adopt advanced technologies to tap fisheries potential in the state, adding that “fisheries being a commercial activity is getting focussed attention of the government and has proved as a prominent enterprise”.
The board will take all necessary steps for the welfare of the sector and lay special emphasis on the welfare of farmers, he added.
