Srinagar: The Indian army on Tuesday morning said that the militant killed in late night encounter in Samboora area of Pulwama district belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant outfit.
In a tweet, the Indian army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps said, “divisional commander of JeM, Noor Muhammad Tantray, was killed and one weapon was recovered. Operation in progress.”
The encounter started late Monday night in Samboora area and the government forces blasted one house where militant/s were staying.
The body of the slain militant has been recovered.
Meanwhile, the director general of J&K police, SP Vaid, said that the government forces had informtaion about 2-3 JeM militants in the area.
“They were planning to launch an attack on Army convoy which routinely plies on Srinagar-Jammu highway but one of them was killed before that in the encounter,” Vaid told a Delhi based Radio channel, Aakash-Vani.
