PAMPORE: Residents of Khrew village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district Monday observed held protest demonstration amid shutdown against power Development department at main Chowk Khrew.
The residents told Kashmir Reader that the department is resorting to unscheduled 15 hour power cut in the area.
“The power cuts are unscheduled and irk residents as most of the time people have to suffer,” said general secretary Auqaf Committee Khrew Shabir Ahmad Anmhangar, adding that students in the village have to bear the brunt of power cuts.
The residents alleged that PDD is supplying electricity to stone crushers at the cost of registered households.
“The power supplied to the village is being diverted to the stone crushers and the employees of PDD are hand in glove with the owners of these stone crushers,” he said.
The resident warned the authorities they would come on roads if the frequent cuts in the village would continue.
“We would not shy away from blocking roads and locking down the industries that usurp most of the power meant for the households,” said a resident, adding that the sooner PDD restores power supply in the village the better would be it for everybody.
An official of PDD told Kashmir Reader that grievances of the Khrew have been taken with Superintendent engineer Awantipora and said that the three hour continuous curtailment has been split into three hours at different times during the day.
