Srinagar: The scientific fraternity of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir condemned the summoning of SKAUST scientist Dr Syed Naseem Geelani to New Delhi.
In a statement, SKUAST (K) scientific fraternity and teachers association said: The NIA has summoned Dr Geelani, scientist SKUAST-Kashmir again to their New Delhi headquarters for questioning in connection with an alleged funding case. According to our scientist, NIA had told him that he was not required to visit Delhi again.”
“Arbitrary summoning and quizzing of Dr Naseem amounts to harassment and mental torture of such a scientist of repute besides affecting the university academics,” President SSTA, Dr S.A. Dar said
“They summoned our scientist again in Delhi if anything will happen to him, and then state Govt and GOI is wholly and fully responsible,” he added.
The statement said that Dr Geelani has attended three rounds of questioning at NIA headquarters, New Delhi.
“The time of Scientist is very precious and by calling him frequently to New Delhi, a lot of time is involved and it affects teaching, research and other academic activities of the university,” statement reads.
SSTA appealed NIA to quiz the scientist at Srinagar or through telecommunication and not be summoned to Delhi which puts burden on his pocket besides affects academic activities of the university.
