Srinagar: A prominent Kashmir University trade union leader Mir Rashiduddin passed away after brief illness here. He was 55. For several years he was the president of non-teaching employees union of the Kashmir University and always stood firm for the larger interest of the student community and the non-teaching staff of the university. Hailing from Dadsara in Tral sub-district, Rashiddudin belonged to illustrious Mir family, and was popular among Kashmir university employees as he played vital role in isolating corrupt elements from the rank and file of the university. Rashiduddin was severe ill for some months and had been under treatment outside the state also.
During his service years, he has steadfastly promoted the interests of Kashmiri students. He management and networking skills were well known as he faced all adversaries with a smile, grit and resilience. Hie sense of humour was hailed among his friends and well-wishers. He always stood for the resolution of Kashmir issue and was not even spared by the state authorities for his political beliefs. A large number of people took part in his funeral prayers at his ancestral graveyard at Dadsara Tral on Sunday afternoon.
