WGAJK to take part in the championship


Srinagar: Winter Games Association of J&K is going to hold a weeklong coaching camp for the selected teams from 1st January 2018 as WGA of J&K is fielding its 32 member contingent to take part in the two major Alpine Ski events at Auli (Uttrakhand) from 15th to 21st January next year.
This was revealed by President WGAJK and MLA Gulmarg Mohammad Abbas Wani.
Besides National Alpine Ski Championship for men and women, the WGAUK is holding the International Ski Federation (FIS) races simultaneously there.
He further informed that the FIS Races are being conducted first time in India. A good number of international skiers are expected to participate.
He further informed that the Association has requested the Sports Council to provide sufficient funds to the association to meet expenses on this account including TA/DA and fee etc.
He also informed that the skiers need specified equipment for this purpose and the association has requested to Tourism Department to provide it on loan.
The selection of the team was made during last State Winter Games held in April 2017 at Kongdori which was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
General Secretary WGAJK Muhammad Yusuf informed that the Screening of the teams will be conducted by Screening Committee of J&K State Sports Council under the supervision of Joint Secretary, Kashmir JKSSC and Sports Officer Kashmir Division on 26th December at 12 noon.
All the selected skiers, whose list has been posted on WGAJK facebook page, have been advised to attend the screening positively at Bakshi Stadium on the said date and time.
