Srinagar: Governor NN Vohra on Friday accepted the resignation of Syed Farooq Andrabi as Minister of State for Hajj and Auqaf. He also nominated Tassaduq Mufti as Member of Legislative Council (MLC), against the seat available for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Council. Party sources said that Tassaduq, the brother of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, is set to join the cabinet as tourism minister.
In an official communiqué issued to the press, it was stated that Governor Vohra, in exercise of powers vested in him under sub-section (6) of section 50 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, nominated Tassaduq as member of the upper house of the state legislature.
The date for Tassaduq’s oath ceremony as MLC has not yet been decided. An official source said that he would be inducted in the cabinet in a ‘couple of days’.
Chairman of the JK Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali, told Kashmir Reader that no official communication has been received regarding the oath ceremony.
“Nothing of that sort has been communicated to us, as of now. We have holiday till Monday and whatever is to be done is expected on Tuesday, or afterwards,” he said.
A senior PDP member told Kashmir Reader that Tassaduq will get the tourism ministry which is currently being held by Mehbooba herself. His oath-taking ceremony as tourism minister is likely to be held before the new year begins.
Andrabi’s ministry will most probably be given to the confidante of the chief minister and legislator from Wachi constituency, Aijaz Mir.
Some party members confided that Andrabi, who represents the Dooru assembly constituency in south Kashmir, would be given reigns of the Waqf board.
