Sopore: Dozens of Safai karamcharis (sweepers) of urban local bodies of Sopore in north Kashmir Baramulla district on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against non-payment of the three months salary. The employees shouted slogans against the executive officer of the municipal committee.
The protesters carried one of their colleagues on their shoulders like a dead body to make the protest impactful.
“I have no other source of income. My family is suffering because the salary has been withheld for three months,” said a protester. The employees said that the Executive officer of Sopore Abdul Mateen has withheld the salaries without any reason from past three months.
Mateen refused to offer a comment on the protest and reasons for delaying payment of salaries. “I am in a meeting and can’t respond to your queries right now,” he told Kashmir Reader on phone.
