Beerwah police arrest ‘mischief-monger’

Budgam: Budgam police on Thursday claimed to have arrested an alleged mischief-monger who has circulated picture of a student from Beerwah and announced on social media that he has joined militant ranks.
The mischief-monger has been identified as Shadir Gull son of Ghulam Mohammad Wagay, a resident of Pulwama who has captured a picture of a class IX student and circulated it on social media.
After the post was widely circulated about Shahnawaz Rashid Wani son of Abdul Rasheed Wani, a resident of Check Wanihama Beerwah claiming that he has joined Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, the father of the student lodged a complaint at police station Beerwa.
“A team from Beerwah police station took cognizance and after ascertaining the facts, came to know that the said boy is a student of class 9th and is studying at High school Chewdara,” SSP Budgam Tijinder Singh said.
He added that the youth has neither joined militant ranks nor has fled away from home, rather is busy with studies at his home.
“The investigation further revealed that a mischief monger namely Shadir Gull, 22, a resident of Rajmohalla Bundzoo Pulwama has captured the picture of the said boy while pruning apple trees in his orchard,” he said.
The mischief boy has been arrested along with his cell phone and fake identity card and has been lodged in police custody.
“An FIR has been lodged at police station Beerwah under FIR no 178/2017 under section 505 RPC, 67 IT,” Singh said.
“Further investigation of the instant case is going on to ascertain the reason for spreading that rumour,” he added.
