Chess championship: Mehrooz, Adil clinch ‘overall champions’ title

SRINAGAR: The chess championship organised by District Srinagar Chess Association concluded at Sheri –Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex here.
In senior girls’ category, Mir Mafooza emerged winner, Nadiya Nellam got 2nd position. Bishmah Afshan emerged winner in U-25 category, Sana Mukhtar got 2nd position, and Anjeela bagged 3rd position. Mohisinah topped U-17 category. U-15 category, Mehrooz Sajjad emerged winner, Zobiya Riyaz bagged 2nd position, and 3rd position jointly got by Arfa Javid and Shayika Javid. Shemayil topped U-13 category. Hiba Bashrat bagged 2nd position. Areeba Shabir bagged 1st position in U-9 category. Amboroz Sajjad bagged 1st position and Deeba Gulzar got 2nd position in U-9 category.
Huda Jan was youngest participant in girls category and Mohammad Gous banday was youngest participant in boys category.
U-7 boys’ category, Ahmad Ali Gowhar got 1st position, Mohammad Gous Banday bagged 2nd position and 3rd position was bagged by Tehseen John. Mohammad Zaid Athar emerged winner in U-09 category. Roohulah got 2nd position and 3rd position was bagged by Ibrahim Ahmad.
Naveed Ahmad topped U-11 category. Suhail Shakeel got 2nd position and Rohan Khursheed bagged 3rd position. Atif Javid Shah emerged winner in U-13 category. Mir Nazim and Faizan bagged 2nd position and 3rd position, respectively.
Rozal Sajjad emerged winner in U-15 category. Mir Abdul Mehran and Zubair Ahmad Dar got 2nd and 3rd position, respectively. U-17, Yasir Akbar bagged 1st position, Faiz Ahmad Kawoosa got 2nd position and 3rd position was bagged by Syed Yawar Javid
Shayan Alam topped U-19 category. Irfan Majid bagged 2nd position and Syed Asrar got 3rd position.
Amir Yousuf emerged winner U-25 category. Malik Shurukh bagged 2nd position and 3rd position got by Burhan Malik
In senior category, Adil Ashraf bagged 1st position, Javid Ahmad got 2nd position and 3rd position was bagged by Mohammad Sharif. Mehrooz Sajjad and Adil Ashraf clinched the title of ‘overall champions’ in girls and boys category, respectively.
The chief guest on closing ceremony was Asiya Murtaza Vice Principal G.D Goyanika Public School while Shiekh Tulal, Manager, Sheri –Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex was guest of honour.
Besides, Arshid Ahmad Kolu (General Secretary), Abdul Rashid Wani Sr. Vice President), Khalid Amin Gojwari Treasurer), Ashiq Ahmad, Farooq Ahmad Dhar (Chief Coordinator) Mohd Shafi (Vice President) All J&K Chess Association, Laila Qureshi, Syed Dr. Sajjad, and representatives of Unibec Foods, Kanwal, Zaffron, and FIL Industries were also present on the occasion.
The championship was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council, Unibec Foods, Kanwal, Zaffron, and FIL Industries in which 120 participated including 25 girls.
