Author Shahnaz Bashir awarded Swiss writer’s residency

Srinagar: Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetia has awarded Kashmiri academic and author, Shahnaz Bashir, with a writer’s residency at Zurich.
Shahnaz is author of two acclaimed books and teaches narrative journalism and conflict reporting at Department of Convergent Journalism, Central University of Kashmir (CUK).
Under the fellowship, Shahnaz will have to stay at Zurich from January 15 to February 24, 2018.
“The program is for writers/artists-in-residence in which they spend time in Switzerland in order to discover the art and writing scene and establish contacts with Swiss artists and writers,” reads the Pro Helvetica letter addressed to Shahnaz. “The award is for your (Shahnaz’s) literary achievements.”
After his first book – The Half Mother – won Muse India Young Writer Award 2015, HarperCollins India launched his Scattered Souls in October 2016.
A university gold medalist in journalism from the University of Kashmir (KU) Shahnaz was awarded the Shamim Ahmad Shamim Memorial Kashmir Times Award 2007. He is currently working on his third book.
CUK Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mehraj ud Din Mir felicitated Shahnaz for the award.
