Pulwama villages complain of acute power cuts

PULWAMA: Several villages in Pulwama have complained of acute power cuts over the last month
Residents of Litter, Nilora, Hajidarpora, Achen, Gadbug, Armula, Alypora, Nowpora, Panjran, Bhatnora and adjoining villages of district Pulwama say they are facing immense problems due to the long power cuts.
Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Litter said that the power curtailment was decreased in other areas but these villages still face the problem.
“Our area is still reeling in darkness due to the callous attitude of authorities,” Sheikh said.
Another resident said that the government was supplying 24-hour power supply to the nearby Lassipora industrial area but has abandoned the common consumers.
“Other areas of the district are receiving scheduled power supply but our area has been abandoned by the government,” Zahid Ahmad, a resident from Batpora said.
Shabir Ahmad Parra, another villager said that five minutes of power were followed by hours of power cuts.
Residents said that they would hit the streets if the situation persisted.
Executive Engineer Power Development Department Pulwama, Manzoor Ahmad Dar told Kashmir Reader that the curtailment scheduled was not limited to Litter area.
“Since the repairs were going on in Sormula-Udhampur electricity transmission tower and it will take a month to get completed and after that scheduled power supply will be provided to the consumers of other areas as well,” he said.
