Srinagar: Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest Tuesday evening after the joint resistance leadership (JRL) announced a shutdown on Wednesday, sources said.
The JRL comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik appealed people to observe a shutdown against civilian killings at the hands of government forces.
Three civilians, including two women were killed in recent incidents.
Beauty Jan, a young lady was killed in clashes with government forces which erupted during a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Shopian district only today.
Two militants were also killed in the gunfight.
